Biography

Deathcult was formed in late 1989 by S.Damian - Vocals & Guitars, Oliver DeLeon - Guitars, Gustavo Garcia - Bass, Juan Gomez - Drums. Brewed in South Central Los Angeles, the band quickly began playing backyard gigs in local areas. During a jam session in 1990, the band recorded "Death Reigns On This Earth Rehearsal Demo" and bootleg copies were traded in the local backyard scene. With a growing devoted following at hand the band began playing gigs at The Reseda Country Club in The San Fernando Valley and The Waters Club in Long Beach, Ca. along with other local acts.

In late 1990 to mid 1991 the band performed with Sepultura, Obituary, Sadus, Napalm Death, Godflesh, Atheist, Candlemass, Demolition Hammer, Autopsy & Nocturnus. In the summer of 1991 the bands' first official demo "Devoured In Holiness" was recorded. This recording would mark the only time the song" The Bride" would be printed, making the demo a must have. While continuing to perform locally and occasionally performing in Tijuana, Mexico, the band began to expand their sound. While their earlier material was a mix of Thrash and Death Metal, the band began to expand their sound.

Deathcult developed a heavier rhythm oriented style and a perverted sense of humor that would be implemented into their new material. The "Sodomy/Repulsive In My Ways" demo was recorded in the summer of 1993. It was originally intended to contain 4 songs, but due to the demand for "Devoured" the band decided to include the album along with "Sodomy" minus the track "The Bride". Sadly after the recording of "Sodomy" Oliver DeLeon left the band for personal reasons.

Oliver was replaced by Ben Camacho an old acquaintance of the band. After the release of "Sodomy" the band began performing heavily again at East L.A. College, The Whiskey, The Surf Club and Gazzarys. Soon after, 1000 copies of "Sodomy" were sold, the band decided to teamed up with Wild Rags records to reprint and distribute the CD. The album was also welcomed outside the U.S. and garnered Deathcult a cult following around the globe.

Ben Camacho decided to call it a day in mid 1995 while the band was working on new material. After unsuccessfully auditioning guitarists, the band members decided to stop performing live for a while to write and record a full length album. In mid recording for an un-named album Deathcult put everything on hold in 1996 and while not officially dead, it certainly appeared that way.

In Early 2007 Gustavo Garcia pulled Damian and Juan Gomez together to have some drinks and the following week 1 new song was written. In November of 2007 Deathcult performed for the first time in more than 10 years at The Relax Bar. Those in attendance were treated to the Sodomizing sounds of old school Death Metal the only way Deathcult can. Oliver DeLeon rejoined the band a couple of months later to make the circle complete. All new material was written and the band began working on their new album entitled " The Living, The Dying and The Damned." The sound is heavy, the lyrics are dark and the style is none other than Deathcult
